Iranian Cyber Attacks: Impacts and Indicators
17 Nov 2020
From approximately December 2011 through September 2013, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sponsored cyber-attacks against the United States' private sector. The attacks targeted 46 of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. and included unauthorized access to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system of the Bowman Dam in Rye, New York. This presentation provides an anatomy of the attacks and applies the event study method to quantitatively describe cyber-social impacts on publicly traded U.S. firms, measured by risk coefficient changes within securities exchanges. Attendees will also learn about recent tradecraft developments and network-based indicators associated with Iranian advanced persistent threats (APTs) groups.
